Sick of seeing cops walk alongside jolly ol’ queers, dancing on floats sponsored by the epitome of capitalist America at the Boston Pride Parade? Same. If you’re trying to avoid the feeling of being the center of a marketing ploy aimed at rich gays, here’s a list of rad sh*t to do instead.
1. Friday, June 1 at Zone 3 – Aeronaut Allston 2018 Launch: Oompa, What Cheer? Brigade, FEMSlam
Queer AF local poet/rapper/educator Oompa is about to absolutely crush it alongside Providence brass-heavy band What Cheer? Brigade and radically inclusive community poetry partners, FEMSlam.
2. Sunday, June 3 at 16 Alcott St., Allston – Sheer Queer Fest Yard Sale
Directly support your local freaks by shopping a yard sale to benefit Sheer Queer Fest. Sounds gay enough for me!
3. Sunday, June 3 at Lucy Parsons Center – FEMS First Sundays (Goth Edition) featuring Little Musket
This radically accessible space hosts an event that’ll highlight poetry (gay), plus it’s goth themed (gay). Yay!
4. Monday, June 4 at Aeronaut Brewing Company – Queers With Beers: Pride Edition
Exactly what it sounds like! Get out there and socialize with your fellow queers.
5. Wednesday, June 6 at Sam Adams Brewery – Pride Beer Garden Takeover
Including (but not limited to) a 16oz draft of Love Conquers Ale, a soft pretzel (yum), a live performance from Queens With A Mission dance crew, and a commemorative Pride koozie. Granted, this event still supports Boston Pride, but sometimes a gays gotta get her beer and merch, ya dig?
6. Thursday, June 7 at Machine – Pride Kickoff with Biqtch Puddin’ and Vanderbilt Von Odd
Pride week sometimes calls for a wild ass drag show. This one features the winners of The Boulet Brothers Dragula Seasons 1 & 2. Sounds like we need a Biqtch Puddin’ X Allston Pudding collaboration.
7. Friday, June 8 at Great Scott – AP presents Elephants, Mint Green, Hexpet
Lowkey trying to self-promote 😉 but this here’s another chance to directly support local queer artists, y’all.
8. Saturday, June 9 at The Sinclair – DON’T ASK DON’T TELL: Redemption
Bless. This was fun as hell last year. This time, it’ll feature DJ sets from Lychee, Lunamariposa, and Colby Drasher, live performances by New Fame and Brandie Blaze, and a drag show. This one’s all about Pride for the People.
9 thru 11. Friday thru Saturday, June 8, 9, & 10 at Bella Luna/The Milky Way, ICON Nightclub, and Perkins St. (JP) – Dyke March AfterParty, LUSH, JP Block Party
After the Dyke March, hit up the after party at Bella Luna/The Milky Way in JP (classic). On Saturday, witness the longest running award winning womxn/queer pride party in Boston at it’s new location. Sunday, join over 2,000 LGBTQ folk and friends of all ages to take over Perkins Street for a fun filled outdoor party with several cash bars, food, drag, dogs and dancing!
