Topshelf Records Annual Sampler Out Now

Print

Another year’s gone by and Topshelf Records have out-samplered the year-end sampler corner of the music world. Their 93-song sampler came out a few days after the end of the year, but it was worth the wait. This year, following the format of previous years, they’ve divided the artists featured on the sampler into two groups: Family, for songs by artists on their label, and Friends for “artists we really think people should be listening to right now.”

If you can’t find something on this release that you like, then you’re lying and I urge you to look again. It has everything from Braid to Basement, Alvvays to Ava Luna, Tacocat to Mitski. The list literally goes on… for like 87 more tracks.

Get it on Bandcamp now and thank yourself later. And if you do pay money for it, label runners Kevin Duquette and Seth Decoteau will be donating everything to the Greater Boston MSPCA.

This is also a kind of farewell the Boston-based Topshelf Records. They’re currently in the midst of relocating to San Diego, so best of luck to them out on the west coast, and they’ll be missed here in Boston.
