For the past two years, Haasan Barclay has been working his way around the Boston hip-hop and R&B scene, producing tracks for OG Swaggerdick, Michael Christmas and Original Kadeem. Back in March, Barclay premiered his debut solo album, titled “Heaven Is Your Last Dream,” via Allston Pudding. Now, he’s released his second video from the album for his song “Get You, Right?”
Following “Creatures Like Us,” the first video from the album, this new one, directed by Liv Slaughter and Barclay himself, is full of shots of the singer lying down and gazing longingly, details which compliment the song’s themes of yearning for lost love. There are also some psychedelic visuals at play, especially the negative images of water washing onto the shore and a guitar player. The images also seem to grow in scope, beginning with close-ups of Barclay, building to a closing panoramic shot of the city skyline.
The song itself showcases Barclay’s formidable production talents, which take modern R&B elements on a chilled-out, psychedelic wave, perfect for lazy Sunday afternoons or late night relaxation. With the hook, “With a goddess on my side, I couldn’t get you right,” the songwriter perfectly demonstrates his ability to tug at the heartstrings while maintaining a very cool musical vibe.
