The inaugural Wicked Good Festival – presented by Emerson’s WERS radio station – took place at the Boston Common on a recent Saturday afternoon, bringing a diverse bill to the masses amid a full spectrum of New England summer weather conditions. The early half of the day spanned from reggae (an opening set by Jahriffe and Jah-N-I Roots Movement), to artful singer-songwriter (local favorites Anjimile), to upbeat indie-pop (Air Traffic Controller) in the blazing afternoon heat. The skies then darkened and eventually opened up during a double-dose of old school Boston indie rock from Juliana Hatfield and Buffalo Tom, before the sun broke forth once more for a jubilant headlining set by Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers. An enthusiastic audience stuck around through the meteorological twists and turns, and not even a gear mishap or two failed dampen the spirit of the bands, making the fest’s first go a fun (and free) musical showcase ­– something the city could always use more of.
