Last Tuesday, Shura returned to Boston to perform her long-awaited sophomore album, forevher. Having been over three years since both her last Boston concert and the release of her 2016 debut album, Nothing’s Real, Shura came back for an intimate and powerful performance of her newest music.
Hannah Cohen brought her ethereal vocals and gentle acoustic guitar strumming to the stage to begin the night’s show. Steady, often understated drum beats and funky bass guitar were a constant throughline between the two sets, as more electronic elements came into play on Shura’s tracks. The self-described “friendly neighborhood lesbian vaping pope,” Shura connected both physically and emotionally with the audience as she performed forevher nearly in its entirety, accented by a smattering of popular songs from her first album including “Touch” and “Indecision” among others. She ended her show with the dreamy “skyline, be mine,” and its echoing crescendo of wailing electric guitar reminded the congregation that they had indeed received a blessing worth the years of waiting.
