Connecticut punkers Ovlov are strapping up for the release of their new record, Am, on July 2nd via Exploding in Sound Records. Having just returned from tour, the band decided to put another track from the album out there for your grooving pleasure. “Nu Punk” is a sludgy and caffeinated banger, bridging the gap between Sonic Youth and JEFF the Brotherhood. I’ve been able to checkout this whole album too, and I couldn’t be more psyched for the world to hear it/unsure the world is ready for it. It’s rare that you hear the word ‘beautiful’ to describe music of Ovlov’s nature, but the songs they used to construct Am  are nothing short of it.

Beyond that, Ovlov are a key part of this cool network of New England bands that are starting to achieve the attention they deserve. Them, along with labelmates Speedy Ortiz and Fat History Month, along with Krill, Arvid Noe, and others, picked a really good time all release albums together. While they all provide different sounds, they seem to be storming out of the Northeast together and showing the rest of the country what it means to kick ass. Listen for yourself and you’ll understand. Here “Nu Punk” above and keep an eye out for Am next month.
