Allston Pudding Stands With Unionizing WBUR Workers

On Tuesday, January 29th, WBUR workers presented management with a petition for union recognition signed by more than 80% of the staff. We at Allston Pudding unequivocally support WBUR’s journalists and staff in their unionization efforts.

The conditions that spurred their organizing—among them, workplace sexual harassment, job insecurity, unequal pay for equal work, and lack of diversity—are familiar to us all and we recognize the necessity of unionization for changing their working conditions and compensation.

As their petition states, “As journalists, we demand accountability and transparency from the agencies and officials we cover–and we ask the same of our employer. We seek transparency and equality in compensation. We aim for a more diverse and inclusive workplace–one that reflects the communities we cover. We want all of our colleagues protected–from our youngest workers to the most senior staffers. Most importantly, as WBUR grows and changes, we hope to foster a culture in which workers feel safe, trusted and appreciated, where our ideas are recognized and our concerns are respected. We are organizing to have a collective voice in that process.”

We recognize the immense value of the work that they do and know they deserve all that they’re demanding and more.

In solidarity,

The Allston Pudding team
