Just a few weeks ago, local musician Ghosh dropped his debut EP No Nonsense via Spotify, and it’s quickly gained some traction. Though it’s a quick listen – two tracks reminiscent of an old school A/B single format – it’s always better to deliver quality over quantity, and Ghosh is able to pack a substantial punch in the EP’s four and a half minute runtime.

Made up of the title track and “Justin’s Song,” No Nonsense mixes elements of 80s dance music, modern trap, and even a dash of the melodic guitar and vocal qualities of alternative emo. Originally, the two songs were one, but Ghosh made the decision to split them up. You can still hear some of the remnants of “No Nonsense” in the intro of “Justin’s Song”, which takes a much more downtempo, chill vibe.

No Nonsense features guest vocals from collaborators Mikey DeAmicis (who also served as producer), Justin Bloom, and Gracie Moses, Ghosh’s childhood friend whom he had not seen since elementary school. “I knew she had a killer voice. [She] hopped on the song, and then Justin came back to add some vocals he wrote, which I ultimately decided to split into its own track.”

As far as the meaning behind the songs, Ghosh set out to deconstruct that idea of nonsense and how more often than not, that nonsense is thrown at us by our interactions with others. For Ghosh, it was imperative to clear that excess noise out of his head, leading to the creation of the EP. “Nonsensical situations that leave you standing there like, ‘WTF?’. I was at a point in time a few months ago where I felt like I was getting stressed about the most minor things so I decided to pack my car and head up to the White Mountains by myself to reflect for a few days.” After that, he knew that this would be his debut release.
