The Best Local Sandwich Shops – All Around Boston Edition

The Hubbard Park from Darwin's in Cambridge

Last week we teamed up with some of our favorite local bands to introduce you to your new favorite sandwich shops. All of them were located in either Allston or Brighton, so you’ve had plenty of time to check out every single one on the list and judge for yourselves….right?

Today we’re back to help you broaden your culinary horizons with the best sandwich shops not only here in Allston/Brighton, but everywhere else in the city. From Chinatown to East Boston, we’ve got you covered, no matter which non-green line train you find yourself on.

White Pages

163 Vietnamese Sandwich And Bubble Tea – 66 Harrison Ave, Boston (Chinatown) –

163 Vietnamese Sandwich and Bubble Tea in Chinatown wins on so many levels. It opens at 7am, so if you crave a morning bahn mi you’re in luck! Also, it is inclusive to both meat eaters and vegans, I get mine with vegan “chicken”. Sometimes if I want to torture myself I ask for hot peppers on it, I’m not sure what kind they use but they’re really fuckin hot, mostly full of seeds and are very painful to eat. That being said, get peppers on your sandwich. And maybe order a second sandwich with no peppers on it. They only cost 3 bucks!

Onslo

Haley House – 12 Dade St, Roxbury – Ethan

My favorite sandwich shop in the area is definitely Haley House! They are in Roxbury on Dade Street, right next to Boston Gardener. They do so much for the community and have really cool stuff going on like the Souper Bowl (soup contest.) They also use all local fresh produce (blah blah blah yeah I know) and carry organic beer (delicious!) All kinds of wonderful stuff. Their thai peanut wrap is fantastic, and you can get it with either chicken or vegetarian filling. Marvelous! Do yourself a favor; hop on a bus to Dudley Square (there are many, including the silver line; it would be the #66 from Allston Pudding) and get your sweet ass to Haley House!!!! NOW.

Parasol

International Falafel – 88 Blackstone St, Boston – Jake

Ok listen close cause this shit is important: INTERNATIONAL FALAFEL IS THE BEST SANDWHICH SHOP IN BOSTON. The dude is an ex-Al Jazeera reporter who runs the entire place himself. It smells like fish cuz its a meat shop but that wont stop him from making you sit down and eat. You literally cannot pay before eating without offending this guy, so deal with it. If you go there every day he will give you hugs and free lentil soup. And let me tell you, that is some serious lentil soup. If you go in every day for a while and then stop going for a while and then go back you will be met with no hugs, no free lentil soup, and a look of extreme betrayal that will ruminate in your soul until the day you die.

Soccer Mom

Darwin’s Ltd. – 148 Mt Auburn St, Cambridge – Justin

Justin: I love Darwin’s Ltd. on Mt. Auburn St. in Cambridge. My favorite sandwich there is The Lakeview (called “The Leonard” at the Cambridge St. location), which is basically a salad sandwich. I like it best with rye bread or failing that pumpernickel. Healthy and flavorful: synergy! Definitely my favorite sandwich in town.

Olecito – 12 Springfield St, Cambridge – Danielle

I cannot choose between the two, as they are so very different, but my top choices would be the Sonora sandwich at Olecito in Cambridge which is a delicious mexican style sandwich. The other would be the LA Wrap (does that count?) at Root in Allston. Basil hummus and loads of veggies; you can’t go wrong!

Ghosts of Sailors at Sea

Garlic and Lemons – 133 Harvard Ave, Allston – Patrick

A new place I’ve been digging is Garlic and Lemons on Harvard Ave in Allston. I really like their falafel sandwich and you can pile that as high as you like with a lot of delicious extras. They have a lot of great vegetarian options which is awesome. In addition, they’re cheap, fast, and right near where we practice.

Zaftigs – 335 Harvard St, Brookline – Daniel

Daniel Benoit: Eating is one of the things I’m best at. I live only a few blocks from Zaftigs on Harvard St and am constantly lured in to get a brisket sandwich on marble rye.  You get some delicious au jus to dip it in and our own bottle of amazing house mustard that you can use as liberally or as sparingly as you like.  For me this place is an addiction, everything on the menu is exceptional and extremely affordable, and I’m fat and have no will power.  They also have two employees there from another great local band called Lady Bones!

Dough’s – 20 Maverick St, Boston – Mark

I am big fan of Dough’s in East Boston, near Maverick Square. They have a pretty interesting selection of specialty sandwiches, my favorite being “The Vermonter”, which consists of  turkey, gouda cheese, apple, red onion, bacon and sun dried tomato mayo baked on multigrain bread that is baked in an oven.  Bold flavors everywhere.

Dave’s Fresh Pasta – 81 Holland St, Somerville – Andrew

Gotta go with Dave’s Fresh Pasta in Davis Sq in Somerville.  My wife and I like to split a flank steak sandwich and a caprese sandwich.  They stop taking orders at 7, so you have to plan ahead, but oh man it’s worth it.

Faces In The Floor

Sabatino’s – 895 Main St, Waltham and 1443 Commonwealth Ave, Brighton – Eddie

Sabatino’s steak bomb!  It hit’s the spot 😉

Moogy’s – 54 Chestnut Hill Ave, Brighton – Jason

You can’t go wrong with anything there!
