BUFU Records Gives Us the Skinny on BUFU Fest (More Bands Announced)

Local label BUFU Records is all about rockin’ out, prescription and lucky for us that rockin’ out is being condensed into two days of nonstop live music, pilule partying and good vibes. That’s right- BUFU Fest is right around the corner. To get the skinny on what we can expect, ed we talked to two of the dudes behind BUFU records, Ben Katzman and Chris Collins who were making some dope looking tacos and getting excited to see their favorite bands take Boston by storm.

AP: What are you hoping the artists and audience will get out of BUFU Fest

CC: You’re gonna get a lot of good times, two days with a lot of local bands, some of the coolest bands the region has to offer, and some surprises, and a LOT of rockin’ out! Oh, and it’ll be all ages.

BK: Yeah there’s a lot of rocking out from the region and all over the country and we’re looking for everyone to have fun and rock out TOGETHER! It’s gonna be sick.

AP: Is BUFU Fest a one-time deal, or are you guys looking to do it again next year?

BK: There’s probably gonna be multiple BUFU Fests throughout the year, but under different names. The thing about BUFU Fest is that it isn’t about a FEST it’s all about putting shows on and bringing people together, so if we can do this again we will.

AP: So basically whenever there’s a need for the “Rockin’ Out,” you guys wanna provide the “Rockin’ out?”

BK: Yeah cus we’re always rockin’ out! We don’t provide it, it just happens.

AP: Are you guys happy with the venues for BUFU Fest?

BK: They couldn’t be better! They’re weird, perfect places that you wouldn’t expect. You don’t have the pressure of going to a nightclub where there’s loud music the whole time and there’s stress having to buy drinks the whole time, this is gonna be a place where you can just chill with your friends and check out some new music.

CC: Again it’s all ages so it’s open to everyone and it’s a cozier space, it’s not traditional.

AP: In what ways do you guys want to expand on BUFU Fest in the future?

BK: We just wanna make sure our favorite bands…I mean BUFU records is a label so we want our bands to get showcased and the bands that aren’t on our label that we love, we wanna make sure other people get a chance to hear them. We wanna mix the bill up and have fun.

CC: Even if they don’t know the bands beforehand we want people to just experience live music, and being able to reach out and say hi and meet other cool people.

AP: You guys talk a lot about “Rockin’ Out” but how do you define “Rockin’ out?”

BK: Let me explain- this is a great question, there are three components to rockin’ out!

Step one- chillin’ mad hard.  Step two- listening to sick music, and step three- sharing it with your friends and having fun! Rockin’ out is chillin mad hard and playin’ no games.

CC: Rocking out can be whatever you want it to be, it’s forgetting about your worries about what other people perceive of being cool, and just having fun together!
