Sean Hart and Chris Rehm of Caddywhompus get back to the basics of both palette and concept with their new “Company” video released via Stereogum. As the New Orleans(ian?) guitar and drum duo ride the wave of their brand-new album Feathering a Nest, a call back to the roots of anything seems appropriate. In this case, it comes in the form of primary colors and simple camera-on-band footage.
The video features nothing more than Caddywhompus themselves on a low, hexagonal platform. It’s just tall enough to verify the existence of their discography but just short enough to not be obnoxious. They play. We watch. And the backdrop goes where it pleases, into and out of reds, blues and yellows. The concept’s pairing with the track is what really adds depth though. “Company” is a track too dynamic to just call “powerhouse.” It’s rhythmic structure sounds tricky to play while the video proves otherwise for Hart and Rehm. If they write the song, they slay it too.
Guitar-driven, aesthetically pleasing and representative of the duo at hand, the “Company” video is not only a pick-me-up but a reminder of what bands should be good at: playing.
