DJ Premier VS Pete Rock Preview

Alexander Hamilton vs. Aaron Burr, Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant and Mufasa vs. Scar – matchups of history’s most formidable opponents. While each shook the very foundation of their world, few had the repercussions that the battle between DJ Premier and Pete Rock will inevitably create next Thursday (July 18) at the Middle East Downstairs.

Both Premo and the Chocolate Boy Wonder have discographies \l “note-178162” longer than Manute Bol. For that reason it’s impossible to decide who should take the title of GOAT. Both pioneered the distinctive New York sound of the 1990s, a sound which dominated the decade. Since then they both have remained more than relevant producing tracks for Mac Miller, Joey Bada$$, Little Brother and countless others.

This is not their first meeting and certainly wont be their last. In Tokyo in 2011 the two took attendees through the evolution of hip-hop, from James Brown breakbeats to underground classics like Blahzay Blahzay.

The show this coming Thursday should be more of the same and won’t disappoint.
