Bob Records: simple in name, home to a plethora of talented bands we know and love. Since releasing records and cassettes for local favorites like Krill and Rye Pines, Bob has become an Allston-household name—one synonymous with a love of all local music, and a serious effort to support it. You can find all of the label’s releases here.

The latest release from Bob is Drunk Couples Cruisin’ EP. Bob Records described them on the band’s Facebook page:

“Beer soaked and leather jacket wearin’. That’s how I describe this band.”

Hailing from Charleston, SC, Drunk Couples add some spice to a not-so-traditionally sweet Southern sound. Thick, knotty riffs accompany mottled lyrics that make this punk group hot to the touch. The songs on Cruisin’ race ahead at breakneck speed, but certainly leave a lasting impression in their pure punk-ness, exhibited by the aggressive rhythms and angry lyrics that embody feeling lost and uncertain in this unforgiving world. Drummer Andrew Barnes and guitarist CJ DeLuca have toured with the now defunct, but gritty Virginia band Gifts From Enola in the past; an experience they have no doubt carried with them as they joined Drunk Couples. Cruisin’ shares the dynamic techniques common in prog-rock in the modern age, the tracks sneaking up behind you before launching into unrelenting decibel levels.

These five tracks come as Drunk Couples’ first studio release, though they’ve been performing around the U.S. since 2014. The album’s due out tomorrow, but you can stream the album in full via Bandcamp.
