Portland indie rock band Flipchuck release their self-titled debut EP tomorrow, but Allston Pudding has the exclusive first listen for you today, giving us new music to jam to while we’re all at home. Even though the hip three piece band has only been playing together for two years, these songs have been meticulously written over the course of seven years by lead singer Addie Meyer.
“Around Now,” the first song off of Flipchuck, is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. “It was the last song we all wrote together, and our usual songs usually have bass, guitar, and drums, but it was really exciting to add some synth and experiment with this one,” Meyer says. The synth compliments the complex melodies while also cradling the vocals and melding together in a blissful harmony with the bass, pushing an already great song into one that will be stuck in your head for weeks.
“Around Now” isn’t the only catchy song off the album. The rich drum beats in “Your Mouth” and the pure harmonies in “Cutoffs” create a well-rounded musical experience that makes this Portland product a must-listen. Addie’s sonorous vocals shine through “Gold Talk” as much as the precious metal itself, and “I’ve Got A Kid” will resonate with any babysitter or nanny who understands the close relationship between them and the child they look after.
Pro tip: To fully immerse yourself while listening to Flipchuck, light a candle, get a piping hot cup of Earl Grey, and cuddle with your softest blanket at the end of your day. This EP is the perfect way to wind down and get a change of scenery—even if you’re not able to leave home.
