EP PREMIERE: Sleeping In’s “S/T”

sleepingin2

Depending on who you are, search Sleeping In might be a bright hope in 2015 or a couple of Vermont guys that showed up a bit late to the endlessly-moping shoegaze revival.

I mean, tardiness is kinda understandable…Burlington’s a pretty hellish commute to anywhere with less than six feet of snow.

But in an age where Title Fight’s making the Warped Tour crowd look up Souvlaki and no one considers you “cool” or “a brooding demigod” anymore for falling in love with Loveless at the tender age of 15 (high school me would be devastated), there’s still plenty to be said for Sleeping In’s debut effort. Where some nu-gaze bands would just daisy chain every distortion pedal they could find and force Nyquil on their singer, Sleeping In arrive with focus for their angst. Opener “Big Starr” absolutely towers with heavily layered vocals atop shorting guitar work, while lead single “Sink In Yr Skin” is actually kinda buoyant in its catchy misery. In four songs, Sleeping In sublimate undoubtable years of red-eyed night drives and amp destruction into a thoughtfully constructed, promising monument to weird sleep patterns.

The EP is premiering with us below and will be officially out next week. Sleeping In is currently planning a summer tour following an appearance with Titus Andronicus and Delicate Steve at the Waking Windows Festival in May.
