Some of our favorite bands (Mean Creek, The So So Glos, earthquake party!, and Hard Nips) are getting together tomorrow night at Great Scott to play a gnarly show, and we couldn’t be more excited to be involved. Matt from The So So Glos even put together a playlist of some sweet tunes together in anticipation of the gig – check out his playlist below and be sure to compliment him on his dope choices at Great Scott tomorrow evening.
From Matt: So I requested my friend Jenny play me these songs in this order while we were driving into New Orleans yesterday, so I feel like there’s possibly some sort of inexplicable cohesion to this lil mix, and maybe some sort of subconscious meaningfulness that relates them all to us as a band. Maybe you’ll listen to this playlist and feel like you’re right here with us in our dingy white creepo van. But also maybe not. It’s just music dog!
Death in Vegas – Help Yourself
I <3 Hope Sandoval.
Luna – Sideshow by the Seashore
Ugh. That riff with the whammy bend at the end? So mellow it makes me want to quit doing things.
Cass McCombs – Your Mother and Father
One of the best shows I ever went to was Cass McCombs at the Hideout in Chicago, 2 or 3 years ago. When he sat down at the piano to do this song, plucking away with one finger, mic in other hand, me and my gf were like DONE for. Almost don’t want to like this guy so much cuz he’s TOO GOOD.
The Clash – City of the Dead (live…)
I guess they took the studio recording off Spotify. Bummer cuz that one has some killer sax all up in it. I love this song. Mick is shredding like a hero on this one too. Shoulda been on a proper full-length, no idea why it wasn’t. Politics son. We covered it once.
Speedy Ortiz – Silver Spring
Perfect loud-quiet-loud song. I love you guys so much.
The English Beat – Save it for Later
Unnngggh! There’s your sax fool!
Joan of Arc – Many Times I’ve Mistaken
My bandmates don’t really get down with the heady Chicago noodlehead Kinsella bros shit, but damn if I don’t love it like it’s my job. They don’t mind this one.
Cat Power – I Found a Reason
Rest in peace Mr. Louis. I want this to be played at my wedding and funeral.
Diarrhea Planet – Hammer of the Gods
Just toured with these boys for like 7 weeks. They’re playing Boston on the 10th, I think at TT’s. Go.
‘Til Tuesday – You Know the Rest
Great Boston band, perfect song.
