New Hampshire’s Howling Boil capture an interesting regional blend that draws flavors from various surrounding scenes, but goes down smooth no matter who you are and where you’re from. The Portsmouth-based quintet produces an enormous Americana rock sound, but their latest LP, Maiden America, dips into a number of different influences. Lead track “Retaking the Piss” as well as some of the more reverbed tracks like, “Greasy Demon” dive into the freaky garage scene of the Granite State, while more acoustic-based falsetto on “Second Chorus” give a woodsy New England vibe, and the power-pop of “Inconcigarette” feels right at home in an Allston basement. Their debut album is solid proof that these guys could fit in well on a number of bills but keep things interesting with equal shares of rock n’ roll standards, and more lengthy, composed parts.

Howling Boil currently play all over New England and are looking to tour in support of Maiden America, all while gathering material for their follow-up. Be sure to keep up with these guys, as they are just one of many young bands building a really cool scene in New Hampshire.
