We’ve been waiting in anticipation ever since these Philly-based warblers charmed us with Get Disowned back in 2012. And the moment is almost, finally, here- their second album, and label debut, Painted Shut can be picked up May 5th through Saddle Creek. Pre-orders are going fast, snag one here.
With her signature frenetic vocals, climbing and collapsing in a single breath, singer Frances Quinlan offers a bite of just what makes Hope Along so juicy with their first single off the upcoming album, “Waitress”. Her raspy yet sugar-sweet voice, reeling with reckless abandon, stumbling over broken-hearted lyrics are exactly what made everyone fall in love with the sister from the city of brotherly love. Mix that with fuzzy, clumsy guitar and you’ve got one fresh Hop Along track. “Waitress” is seemingly battling itself, each element of the band racing to outdo the other in intensity. And it offers the perfect taste of what more is to come on Painted Shut– it ceases without fanfare, without cadence, simply dropping off and leaving us salivating for more.
Philadelphia is the apparent epicenter of the punk scenes of the modern age. Stretching the punk genre boundlessly, Philly has borne memorable, melancholically aggressive acts such as Cayetana, Modern Baseball, The Menzingers, and Swearin’, to name a few.
Check out “Waitress” below, and try your best to stay calm until the album is released. But the good news doesn’t stop there- you can also catch Hop Along on tour. Dates below.
