We’ve all heard over and over again about what us peasant festival goers predict our festival experience to be like, but we caught up with an actual artist performing in Gov Ball this year and asked for their insight.

Indie pop trio Little Daylight answered a few questions about what it’s like to be on the other side of the stage at a festival:

AP: Who are you excited to see at Gov Ball?
We’re more excited to hang and see our friends’ bands. We toured with Bastille a bunch last year, so will be great to catch up with them. Also our fellow Brooklynites Haerts and Tanlines. Beyond them, stoked about Classixx, Grimes, and, of course, Outkast.

AP: Have you played other festivals / Gov Ball before? Did you like it, and how did it go?
We’re pretty new to the festival game. Last summer we played the Full Moon Party, which was on Governor’s Island. We’ve done SXSW twice now, but other than those, we’re festival virgins. We are really excited to be doing Governor’s Ball, Firefly, and Launch Festival this year. We love playing outdoors, and feel that our sound really works in that setting.

AP: What is your favorite music festival experience that you have had yet and why?
Playing Full Moon last summer was unbelievable. We went on right after the Knocks played this epic DJ set, so the energy was just huge. Everybody started dancing right from the first note of our set and it didn’t let up. That was one of the best shows we’ve played so far.

AP: What are some tips you have for festival goers?
Observe the golden ratio of 1 beer to 1 bottle of water! And try to see some bands you don’t know. That’s the beauty of festivals… so much great, varied music at one’s disposal.

AP: What’s your favorite New York memory?
We’re from here, so that’s a tough one to answer! This past summer and fall we made our debut album “Hello Memory” in Brooklyn. Being able to stay close to home while also throwing ourselves completely into the writing and recording process was amazing for us. We really were able to distill a lot of what we were experiencing here in New York into the music, and we’re really proud of that. And now that the record is done we’re able to enjoy a New York summer without being in the studio every day.
