What does your company do?
Sofar Sounds is a global network of secret, intimate living room concerts. The beauty of Sofar is that attendees have no idea where the show is being held until the day before and don’t know who the performers are until they show up. This creates an audience of diehard music fans, eager to discover new artists, and is perfect for Sofar’s listening room style shows. Plus who doesn’t like to brag to their friends about the super secret, super exclusive concert they saw in some crazy, unique space? Thought so.

How did Sofar Sounds Boston get started?
Well the global movement that is Sofar Sounds started in London back in 2009, but we didn’t start here in Boston until September 2013. Since then we’ve been producing monthly shows in Boston and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Why do you do it?
Mostly because we love music and more specifically local music. All three of the Sofar Boston founders work or have worked in the music industry, but there’s just something about the magic of Sofar that really brings out our collective passion for music. For bands it’s a great experience because not only do they get an awesome piece of content (every artist who performs gets mixed mp3s of their full set and a video of one song from each set), but they’re also connecting with a room full of fans who are passionate about music discovery and may not have heard about them otherwise. For the fans it’s a chance to really listen to some incredible musicians instead of going to a noisy bar and socializing with friends. To see all of that put into action is very rewarding for us and is definitely a big factor of why we do what we do.

Who are some of your favorite bands?
Some of our favorite bands, who also happen to be Sofar Boston alums, include Joe Fletcher, Friendly People, Will Dailey, Andrew Combs, The Ballroom Thieves, Faces on Film, Dwight & Nicole, Darlingside, Moe Pope, Parsonsfield, Tall Heights, Grey Season, and many many more.

What is your favorite food spot in Boston?
Probably Parish Cafe (either location), have you ever had that white chocolate bread pudding? That stuff is out of bounds. Don’t get us started on the reggae wings either.
