Today JEFF the Brotherhood premiered the wonderfully weird music video for “In My Mouth,” the latest single from their most recent LP, Wasted on the Dream. In the video, the Nashville two-piece turn to puppetry to amp up the song’s tongue-in-cheek tone, to much success. The video features puppet versions of both band members performing the song, as well as abundant neon lighting and large floating lips, a la some twisted garage-rock version of Rocky Horror.
“In My Mouth” gives us a catchy three minutes of crassness and heavy overdrive–an unshakable tune reminiscent of ’90s Weezer, but with less-than-subtle allusions to oral sex. The guitar progressions may not vary much, but that doesn’t matter, because we’re too focused blinking in surprise at the frankness of lyrics like “I put it in my mouth/ So it can get wet.” The album was released in March on the band’s own label, Infinity Cat Recordings, after getting dropped by their former label, Warner Bros., this past February. Regardless of recent drama, JEFF the Brotherhood seem to be in high spirits, and this video makes it clear that they’ve held onto their sense of humor and haven’t lost their much-loved brand of fuzz rock along the way.
You can buy Wasted on a Dream from Infinity Cat Recordings and catch JEFF the Brotherhood on their summer tour, which kicks off tomorrow night in Tennessee.
