Rookie Mag asked Speedy Ortiz to play a song dedicated to the theme of this month of ‘The Great Unknown.’ Speedy Ortiz chose to cover the song ‘Lost Something In The Hills’ by Sibylle Baier, a German woman who recorded 14 folk songs in the early 70s but didn’t end up doing anything with them. Her son later found the recordings and sent them to artists, including J. Macias of Dinosaur Jr.

The cover maintains it’s folk roots, carrying a slightly ominous and mysterious tone to it, but of course still with the classic Speedy Ortiz grunge rock, electric guitar drenched influence. Speedy Ortiz recorded this cover in the middle of the night, with help from Ben Scherer from Palehound, at a summer camp that Sadie Dupuis attended as a child and later taught music from as a young adult.
