Finally, a nostalgia mega-tour for millennials that is well worth the hype! A moose load of Canadians descended on Boston this week as three BFF bands: Stars, Broken Social Scene, and Metric arrived for their coheadlining tour at Fenway’s MGM Music Hall. Each band plays a notable a part in Toronto’s indie rock scene in their own right, so this joint tour captured all of the benefits of a bustling community with lots of cross-pollination. All three groups played hour-long sets while intermittently joining onstage during each others’ sets to jam with their buds. Emily Haines of Metric contributed vocals for Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” after a moving message about the power of friendship, and the entire room got emotional! Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew got choked up several times about being able to stay creative and tour with each other in such a tumultuous world! These bands sure do love each other! 

Broken Social Scene and Metric have both released new music this year (Remember the Humans and Romanticize the Dive), respectively, and worked several new tracks into their sets. Broken Social Scene’s “Texaco Bitches” and “The Sweetest Kill” blended nicely into “The Call”.  The lead single off of Metric’s new album, “Victim of Luck” got MGM bumping into a club-like atmosphere quickly after Haines took the stage. After selections including “Breathing Underwater” and “Synthetica”, she finished it off with bangers like “Help I’m Alive” and “Black Sheep”. Stars stuck to the hits, but with a huge backlog of beloved tracks like “Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It” as well as “Your Ex-Lover is Dead”, no one was bored.
