Allston Pudding favorites PAWS have posted a statement on their Facebook page regarding the near-cancellation of their show last night in Santa Anna, CA. The band was getting ready to play a sold-out gig opening for We Are Scientists at Constellation Rooms, when they were informed they would not be allowed to perform. Apparently Morrissey (or a member of his crew) was concerned that his set in an adjoining ballroom would be affected by the band’s performance, and told the promoter that no other band could be playing when he was on stage.
When PAWS informed fans of the news, the story was quickly picked up by a number of music sites, causing quite a bit of friction between the Morrissey and PAWS camps. In the end, the band was allowed to play, but not before being screamed at by Morrissey’s tour manager. Check out an excerpt below. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, check out our recent PAWS interview right here.
The post went crazy. We received several calls from lots of different people, perhaps the most important being the promoter for Morrissey’s show. He informed us that – in light of the exponentially-increasing web traffic, there was a possibility that this could shine badly on the entire operation and that if anyone from the Morrissey camp was to see this, there was a very high chance that he could threaten to cancel. This was insane to us. We already weren’t playing, and then there was even the slight possibility that what we wrote could still impact on his show?? That’s insane.
