Need A Costume Idea? We’ve Got A Few Local Bands Here To Help

Babydriver

babydriver

According to Thomas Palmer: My favorite costume as a kid was Batman. I probably wore it 5 years in a row. And, I’m sure my parents loved it, being one less thing to deal with or just not having to spend money on costumes every year.
Here, as a sophomore in high school, I’m dressed as a pimp. Not that I’m so fond of the trade or what it represents; in fact, they totally botched the color. If it were up to me it would’ve been purple.
I attended a certain Catholic high school in Nashville with a great music program. The year of this picture we happened to be putting on a hip hop drumline show and the directors rented this outfit and asked me to rap, “Rapper’s Delight,” which meant I also had a sweet getup for Halloween.
It’s one of my favorite memories in any costume because our show ended up winning a national championship with someone (me) dressed as a pimp, representing a religious school in the south.

cough cough
Says Josh: My favorite “costume” is more just this mask that I love. I find myself donning the mask even when it’s not Halloween. My glasses fit over it, which is the best because I’m blind as a bat. My girlfriend absolutely hates it. I usually pair it with an old straw hat a friend gave me.
Cough Cough has a brand new EP on their Bandcamp page right now.
Says Gabe Gill: That’s me on the left as a small, chubby Dracula. This is probably years before I even knew what a vampire was, but those things are irrelevant in the face of free candy.
The picture at the top of the article is DRMRL bandmate Tieren Costello, keeping with the vampire theme.
Keep your eyes our for a brand new DRMRL track that will be out soon.

Ian

ian ian2

Jillian from Ian is shown here sporting a pint-sized Pocahontas costume in her younger years, and later graduating to a very realistic Queen Amidala later on. Ian’s next show is November 7th at Hassle Fest, and after that they’ll be heading to the West Coast.

Lilith
Says Hannah Liuzzo: I got the idea to be Carmen Miranda (aka Chiquita Banana lady) in MAY and planned my extravagant fruit hat for months. After watching several hours of Carmen Miranda videos on uToob, I bought tiny ((fake)) fruits and assembled the hat at my friend’s house on Pratt St. in Allston. Best part: it LIGHTS UP and every party I went to that year, I doubled as a flashlight in spooky dark basements.
Lilith is currently wrapping up their first release titled “In Warm Weather” coming soon.

Magic Island

Magic Island
Says Drew Valera: My all-time favorite Halloween costume was being a cowboy along with my brother/bassist Anthony. We were only 3 and 4 years old but it felt badass to come back with a shit ton of candy. We felt more like bandits than cowboys.
You can hear Magic Island’s latest release on their bandcamp page.

mini dresses
So this is me (Lira) as Björk in the infamous swan dress that she wore to the 2001 Oscars. This was Halloween 2010; I was a senior in college and Caufield (the other half of Mini Dresses) was studying abroad. I remember Skyping with him as I was putting it all together…I even sewed a purse shaped like an egg mimicking the one Björk accessorized her ensemble with. I spent the greater part of the evening making this costume for this big party that I ultimately spent a grand total of 10 minutes at. Then I went right back to my apartment and ate a whole bunch of Halloween candy by myself.
Catch Mini Dresses at the Allston Pudding Localz Only Mixtape Release show on November 3rd at O’Brien’s.
