Somehow, between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 2006 Show Your Bones and their 2007 It’s Blitz!, lightning-like frontwoman Karen O recorded a series of tunes focusing on her experiences with the sappy timelessness of crushes.
Though known for a more up-front presence and rockier-electronic sound, this album has Ms. O exploring her lo-fi side. Crush Songs and is set to release next week from Julian Casablancas’s Cult label.
As with her Oscar nominated “Moon Song” earlier this year, Karen O articulates raw emotion on the subject of love, loneliness and heartbreaking strength of will. Listen to “Rapt” below.
