A New Venue in Somerville?

Way back in last November, Somerville’s Radio Bar shuttered its doors, and since then the building at 379 Somerville Ave has remained vacant. But, if Dan Millen and Charles Abel (Partners at Chuckmaster Entertainment) effectuate their vision then Union Square may be home to a new live music venue called “Thunder Road.”

Currently the major obstacle for Millen and Abel is acquiring a liquor license from Somerville’s Licensing Commission. The pair argued their case for the license at a public Licensing Commission meeting on August 18th, but the Commission postponed their decision until Millen and Abel hold a meeting with members of the Union Square community. Millen and Abel will get another shot at the license on September 15th when the Licensing Commission holds their next meeting.

According to Millen and Abel, Thunder Road will not host “loud” or “dangerous” music.

Thunder Road’s proposal reflects the broader expansion of Somerville’s night life scene, which will be bolstered by the arrival of the newly expanded Green Line in 2017. So, hopefully we can welcome Thunder Road to Boston’s expansive family of venues within the coming months.
