His Name Is Alive Announce 25th Anniversary Tour

His Name is Alive (aka “Michigan’s Finest”) will celebrate its 25th anniversary and last month’s release of Tecuciztecatl with a US tour. Tickets went on sale over the weekend for their show at Great Scott in Allston on Monday, February 9th (purchase here). Tickets are $15 (18+ show).

As one of 4AD’s signature indie collectives, the band’s sole original member Warren Defever first made a name for himself in the experimental rock scene with Livonia in 1990. Due to distribution contracts between 4AD and Warner Bros. Records at the time of recording Ft. Lake (1998), its commercially driven sound left many HNIA fans feeling alienated. Defever’s subsequent releases inspired by elements of funk and R&B further strayed from the prog rock appeal of Livonia, but its 14th album Tecuciztecatl is a rock opera rebirth for the band: Thin Lizzy-style. Defever collaborated with guitarist Dusty Jones to make a supercut of “every Thin Lizzy guitar solo from 1973 to 1983,” as “a study guide before attempting the harmony guitar solos” on the album.
