Chicago-based and genre-spanning Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, known better as NNAMDÏ, opened a two band bill with classic songs across all of his albums, including Brat and Please Have a Seat. There is something suspenseful and powerfully moving about his live performances in the way he shifts from vulnerable to commanding, sometimes within the bars of the same song (no better example than “Sudafed,” about having a breakdown on the Chicago CTA). Hurray for The Riff Raff followed up with tracks from their most recent album The Past is Still Alive, bringing the solemnity in with “Alibi” and “The World is Dangerous”. Poignant music from two acts who care so much about opening the world up to feeling.
