This Saturday night, “deep in the bowels of Allston” as Anjimile Chithambo would put it, was a Human Nature Record Release show that exceeded the expectations of any hardcore Fanjimile. We were joined by some incredible openers including the summery reminiscence of Fever Charm and the soulful, sexy funk of The Kava Daphne.
When Anjimile came on, the crowd was very well warmed for the epicness that was about to unfurl. Opening with the crowd pleaser “Apocalypse Now”, moving into a spattering of tracks off their new album Human Nature like “Therapy“, “Brain Disease” and “Rebellion“, and of course playing the favorites like “The Arboretum” and “Warm Hearts“, the overpacked basement was cozy and hyped. Taking it up a notch with their last song – “No really, this is our last song. We’re not playing one song after this. There will be no more songs after this song” – “Human Nature“, the punky revelation of the tune caused an inevitable moshpit to come to fruition. As if that didn’t allow for the perfect ending to a beautiful night, Anjimile pulled out their mind blowing cover of “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against the Machine. A few popped vocal chords, some head injuries, and the close engulfment of the lead singer themself into the sweaty crowd, and the night had ended as powerfully as it began.
