Last Sunday, Bellows came back to Boston to celebrate their latest album, The Rose Gardener, released by Topshelf Records. They were joined by Soft Fangs and local support The Water Cycle, but Shannen Moser, who was also originally slated to be on the bill, was forced to cancel last minute due to the flu. The combination of Soft Fangs’ shoegazey sound and The Water Cycle’s easy-to-dance-to high energy songs made for good opening sets, keeping O’Brien’s lively before the night’s closers.
Before the set started, fans who’d been lingering around the bar and other corners of the room moved closer to the stage in anticipation. And despite the forecasted 15 inches of snow, fans stuck it out for the entire show to hear the band play new songs from The Rose Gardener, and Bellows didn’t disappoint. Two highlights of the night included moving live renditions of “The Tower” and the album’s seven minute closer “Count Em’ Down.”
