Brasstracks brought their unique brand of electronic dance-funk to Brighton Music Hall last Wednesday, with support from rappers Kemba and Pell, who also served as guest vocalists on many of Brasstracks’ songs. The duo, made up of Ivan Johnson (trumpet) and Conor Rayne (drums), expanded their lineup for the show to include two additional horns, the aforementioned rappers, and vocalist Father Dude to create an immersive and full-sounding supergroup. Their high-energy set included songs both with and without vocals, plus instrumental covers of popular songs such as “In My Feelings.” The blend of familiar and unfamiliar tunes along with the varied instrumental and vocal tracks ensured there was something for everyone in the packed crowd. Johnson expressed his gratitude for the many faces in the audience, claiming the performers were just a couple “band geeks,” and saying how happy it made them that they could bring other band geeks together.
