PHOTOS: Frankie Cosmos Plays New Record “Vessel” at The Sinclair

On May 2, Frankie Cosmos stopped at The Sinclair to kick off the third night their US tour. Supporting them for the night were Chicago grunge band Lala Lala and Brooklyn indie pop rockers Florist. Lala Lala’s performance consisted mostly of new material, but did include some older tracks for fans of their 2016 album, Sleepyhead. They ended their set with “Fuck With Your Friends,” prefaced by a quick anti-smoking PSA from frontwoman, Lillie West. Florist followed them, mellowing things out a bit with their softer, stripped down performance. The three piece, fronted by Emily Spraugue, showed off some soothing instrumental and vocals performances, with “Glowing Brightly” standing out as their self-proclaimed grooviest onstage moment.

Frankie Cosmos headlined the night, playing many songs from their recently released record, Vessel. Guitarist and vocalist Greta Kline spent most of the performance standing by the mic, but would occasionally take a mid-set knee or squat. She lead the band through a refreshingly flexible setlist, seeming to choose what to play next immediately after finishing each song. Toward the end of the set, the band brought Felix Wadsworth of Told Slant onstage for a brief guest vocal performance on “Being Alive,” then re-took the stage to close out the night with an encore performance of “Outside With The Cuties.”
