Last Wednesday night at Royale, Joyce Manor played to a packed crowd in celebration of their new album, Million Dollars to Kill Me, alongside touring partners Vundabar and Big Eyes. The two opening sets were a great way to kick the night off. Audience members on the edge of the barricade headbanged along to the sets, getting considerably more rowdy during Vundabar’s performance, as they were playing to a hometown crowd.

The energy in the room ramped up as Joyce Manor set up for their headlining performance. The band played a fan pleasing and career spanning setlist. They included few of Million Dollar to Kill Me’s bigger tracks, but it was some of the band’s older songs like “Constant Headache” and their cover of “Video Killed the Radio Star” that really got the room moving. From beginning to end, the crowd sang along to the Joyce Manor’s loud, short, and fast songs, and the band didn’t waste much time between exiting the stage and coming back on for their three song encore.

The encore started with Never Hungover Again’s opening track, “Christmas Card,” which was followed up by “Five Beer Plan” from their 2010 album, Constant Headache, and the overwhelmingly positive response to this kept the band on stage for one more song. Singer/guitarist Barry Johnson asked the crowd for a request, and amid the many different song titles yelled out, some fans organized a chant for “Leather Jacket.” The band prefaced the song by saying that they hadn’t played it in a very long time, but the crowd was incredibly stoked to hear it in either case. Johnson spent most of the song in the crowd and climbed back out to finish the song on guitar to close out an incredibly fun night.
