Last Tuesday night, Mal Blum headlined a three act show at Great Scott with opening bands Heavy Pockets and Mint Green. The first band to play was Heavy Pockets. The show was significant for fans, as it was the group’s third to last show in a series of farewell gigs, and all three members came together to leave fans with a memorable final Boston show. Second up was Mint Green, the local four piece known for consistently bringing high energy to their live performances. As usual, Mint Green did not disappoint, and their set featured some soon to be recorded tracks, and last month’s single “Holy.”
Closing out the night was Mal Blum. The band wasn’t touring in celebration of any recent release, so aside from two unreleased tracks the majority of the crowd was very familiar with the setlist. In addition to a great musical performance from start to finish, fans enjoyed some light hearted banter from the band between songs, which ranged from talk about astrology, to the music industry, to nicknames. And to the happiness of most of the crowd (especially the two members who joined the band on stage to dance), Mal Blum ended with “New Year’s Eve,” bringing the everyone close to the stage than before to sing along.
