Last week, Jessica Lea Mayfield filled Great Scott with both her signature country/grunge (a.k.a. “crunge”) style, and supporters of her newest record, Sorry Is Gone— a collection of dark, atmospheric songs and a retelling of her hell, so to speak. Read more about Mayfield’s story in the AP interview that went up before the show.
Opening for Mayfield was New York-based pop/punk act Mal Blum and the Blums, fronted by Blum themself. Instructed to keep their banter tight, Blum totally failed, to the pleasure of those audience members nestled close to the stage. In addition to quirky one-liners, Blum and the band delivered wordy, punk-fueled tunes that definitely satisfied the Tuesday night crowd.
