Last Wednesday, Denton, Texas natives Parquet Courts headlined at the Royale with support from London’s Goat Girl. Combining a post-punk revival sound with strong musicianship and heavy emphasis on instrumentals, Parquet Courts put on an unforgettable live show, with songs ranging from slow, head-bobbing jams to full-on mosh-inducing punk songs. The crowd responded accordingly, barely moving except to tap their toes at the slower songs, crowd surfing, and even climbing onto the non-barricaded stage at the faster ones. With pauses for banter and conversation worked into their setlist, the band smoothly and masterfully balanced everything that makes a great live show. Parquet Courts left with no encore after roughly 20 songs, underscoring their uniqueness as a live act.
