If you’re wondering what the latest hip new food is, because who isn’t, you’d be surprised to know that it isn’t kale or quinoa, but rather the best part of a Chuckie Cheese birthday party: pizza.

This delicious carbohydrate and cheesy gift from the culinary Gods has been the focus of “Home Alone” child star turned Prince of the Hip and Heroin Chic look Macaulay Culkin’s Velvet Underground cover band: The Pizza Underground.

The band’s demo features, in the Velvet Underground and Lou Reed style, 9 softly sung folk songs dedicated to pizza. Songs include ‘Take a Bite of the Wild Slice’ and ‘I’m Waiting for the Delivery Man.’

To get a better idea of what The Pizza Underground offers, here is a comparison of the original ‘Stephanie Says’ by The Velvet Underground and cover of ‘Papa John Says’ by The Pizza Underground:

‘Stephanie says / That she wants to know / Why she’s given half her life, to people she hates now / Stephanie says / When answering the phone / What country shall I say is calling from across the world / But she’s not afraid to die / The people all call her alaska / Between worlds so the people ask her / cause it’s all in her mind / It’s all in her mind’

‘Papa John Says / When answering the phone / Which topping should I say you want / We deliver now / Papa John Says / That he’d like to know / Why you’ve given half your pie toppings you hate now? / But I didn’t want anchovies / People call them they said no mushrooms / This pie’s cold and there’s mushrooms / Get them off my pie / Get them off my pie’

The band’s demo is available on their bandcamp, and they also have a visual supplement available on their tumblr.

And if that wasn’t enough to make you believe that the za is the it food at the moment, do not forget the upcoming Allston Pudding’s New Year’s Eve Pizza Party at Regina Pizzeria, featuring free admission, $1 slices, $2 beers, performances by Krill and Grass is Green and of course, an unlimited supply of New Years related festivities (read: free debauchery and good music)

Merry pizza, ya filthy animals.
