In a summer of major losses (see: losing Weirdo Records and T.T’s in a span of weeks) and new, absolutely insane developments to fill the holes ever so slightly, POP Allston, which was announced earlier this afternoon, is a major bright spot in the latter category.

The multi-functional space boasts “a nearly 10,000 square foot free indoor skatepark, weekly multi-vendor vintage market, [and a] pop up DIY bicycle repair workshop” along with additional room for further use. Located on 89 Brighton Avenue, POP Allston is a collaborative space between established locals Commonwheels Bicycle Co-Op, Converse, Orchard Skate Shop, and Vivant Vintage with the City of Boston’s guidance. Essentially, our dream of buying ironic, tassled cowboy jackets from the ’70s, trying miserably to pull off Evel Knievel-level bike tricks, and getting our bikes fixed after failing at said stunts in one single location is a reality.

Although a temporary space, POP Boston’s second floor will use sustainable materials to ensure it can be reused in other skateparks afterwards, so the greatness will continue long after this emotionally draining summer concludes.
