Boston guitar-vocal duo Badknight create perfect Spring music. The angelic vocals of Emily Lenae welcome the flowers’ bloom, while the vibrant finger-picking of Devin McKnight produces an invigorating breeze; The two forces together creating an eclectic change of pace for any optimist on their way out of hibernation. The band’s new full-length, Blue Blanket, drops this Thursday, May 9th, but today, here and only here, you can hear a new track from the album called “Rascal.” The track maintains a very hollow, bare-bones approach, but also dabbles in some composed string parts, creating a solid, but not overbearing platform for Lenea to deliver a jovial and warm collection of notes. Blue Blanket doesn’t take steps in an entirely new direction, but it takes leaps in the right direction. The thing I’ve always loved about this band is that you could play them for any casual listener, any music snob, mom, dad, grandma, probably even a punk or two, and reactions across the board would be overwhelmingly positive. They aren’t trying re-write the music books, but at the same time, their vocal brawn, incredible attention to detail, and curious melange of styles, makes them a continuously captivating listen. You can hear it clearly in “Rascal,” and you can undoubtedly track it throughout the rest of the Blue Blanket. Listen to the track below, and if you pre-order the whole album now for just 7$, you can download “Rascal” instantly. Also, don’t miss their album release show this Thursday at Great Scott with Art Decade, The Dwells, and Max Jeffers. It’s sure to kick you’re Spring into gear if you haven’t done so already.
