We are thrilled today to share a new demo track from Boston’s greatest rock n’ roll warriors. Mean Creek have become a greater force with every release, hospital and today you can listen to the first tune from their 3-demo cassette that they will release for record store day on April 20th. The tape will only be available in various independent record stores that day, so if you’re craving a physical copy, don’t sleep on it. These are demos for their upcoming EP that will potentially be released this fall.
“My Madeline” is two and a half minutes of classic Mean Creek goodness. Chris Keene’s lyrical heft is carried by its simplicity this time around. “I won’t let the two of us down,”—the sentiment that he lets resonate throughout the song cements itself into the foundation of the track, but only counts because of the sincerity and power of Keene’s voice. The demo-sound leaves some endearing sludge to the overall sound of the track, and lends some vintage quality to Aurore Ounjian’s guitar work. The track is an innovative midway between garage and grunge, and shows exciting things for the near future of the band. Be sure to give it a listen or ten above, and do not miss your chance to pick up the cassette, which will also feature two more new Mean Creek demos, at independent record stores throughout Boston on April 20th.
Also, do not miss them this Friday at O’Brien’s leading a monstrous bill that also includes Western Mass punkers (and total Allston Pudding favorites) Potty Mouth as well as Brooklyn garage rock studs Shark?, who recently released a new track “California Grrls” which kicks ass. This show could easily be at a much bigger venue, but some bands just love getting in touch with their roots, and Mean Creek is one of those. You can check out the Facebook event here, but I’d recommend check out the real thang.
