Did you get tickets to the Ex Hex / Kuroma show this coming Friday at Great Scott and suffered an extreme case of “who are these people again?” and/or “what the hell did I just get myself into?”. Allston Pudding’s got the cure with a refresher course for fans and newcomers alike.

Kuroma

WHO ARE THEY? Kuroma

YEAH, BUT WHO ARE THEY REALLY? Hank Sullivant (of MGMT and The Whigs) and a bunch of his best buds.

SO, THIS IS LIKE MGMT-lite? Nope, the vocals might ring echoes of MGMT, but Kuroma is way more expansive in their musical thread count. They are also much more built around a solid foundation of glam/psych pop rock. Smart guitar hooks and sing-a-long songs are abound.

THEN WHAT SONG SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE I GO?

OH MAN, THIS IS SO CATCHY. Yeah, right?

WHO ARE THEY? Ex Hex

BUT WHO ARE THEY REALLY? Just three punk chicks hanging out. You may recognize Mary Timony from Wild Flag.

SO, THIS IS LIKE WILD FLAG-lite? Not really sure what your obsession is with lite. Are you on a diet? But anyways, this is kinda similar to Wild Flag actually. More good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll. And maybe more silly if that’s even possible.

SILLY? This video kinda says it all about Ex Hex.

OH MAN, THIS IS SO CATCHY TOO. Yup, this show just exudes dancey, sing-a-long behavior. Looks like it’s time for you to hit the lyric book and craft yourselves some dance moves for this one, kids.
