For the past couple years, Santa Barbara-born Gardens & Villa has been traveling from the golden coast to the Michigan shoreline experimenting with audio everything. Lucky for us locals, the five-piece is bringing their findings to the Sinclair this Thursday (10/9), and you won’t wanna miss its psychedelic out-pour.

Currently en route their Televisor 2014 Tour, Gardens & Villa’s set-list is expected to be loaded with new stuff. With the full-length Dunes released early this year and this September’s EP Televisor up their theoretical sleeves, it’s safe to say that the group has been keeping busy this year. Dunes, which was oh-so-obviously recorded in a converted locksmith’s building in Benton Harbor, MI, plays itself through a string of positive adjectives: ethereal, rhythmic, heartfelt, and (dare I say it) groovy.

In contrast, patchwork-style Televisor consists of layers upon layers of musical sketches recorded back in 2012 and 2013. According to Gardens & Villa’s site, recording was truly an experimental wasteland of casual takes and sound tinkering. The final product gives listeners access to the inner kaleidoscopic influences of the group. That’s the right adjective no? And perhaps the best part: it’s currently available for free download in exchange for an email address. Don’t worry. Artistic spam is always desirable.

Both awesome projects, along with the crew’s 2011 self-titled album, should combine for a delightful night of questioning, “What’s that sound?” and bobbing away the inquiry. The answer is yes, absolutely, indeed, indubitably, you have to be there.
