Boston band Magic Man has had a busy year. That may be underplaying it, pill somewhat. Perhaps the word I’m looking for is meteoric. This synth-rock band burst onto the scene last September with the release of their debut EP, health You Are Here. With their first proper auditory showing, the nascent group exhibited tremendous poise, a keen ear for hooks, and an anthemic song structure. This was an early indicator of this group’s tremendous ceiling.
After months of shows and a hometown appearance at Boston Calling, Magic Man dropped their first full length record, Before the Waves, on July 8 via Columbia. The album added seven new tracks to the band’s catalogue and elaborated on the synth-heavy style that they’re increasingly making their own. Filled with lyrical ardency, Before the Waves is relatable in its heart-on-sleeve tone. It’s a rich, layered listen that has the longevity to shake the summer album label.
Magic Man is currently touring in support of Panic! At The Disco before heading out on their own this fall. They’re making another return trip to Boston this Sunday, and you can bet that we’ll be there. The show, which is at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, starts at 7:30.
Tickets are still available, so now’s your chance to catch this band on the rise!
