PREVIEW: Wild Beasts w/Mutual Benefit at Sinclair (7/14)

wild beasts

We’re all prone to coming down with a case of the Mondays (especially during the summertime) but The Sinclair’s got a lineup this Monday night that is sure to please. With the multitude of bands these days with the word “wild” in their name, it’s easy to get confused. I was trying to look up a Wild Nothing song one day and mistakenly ended up on Wild Beasts page. A happy accident because their track “Loop the Loop” struck a chord in me and vocalist Hayden Thorpe is not a voice to easily forget. Thorpe’s deep register vibratos just the right way paired with his existential lyrics that was unlike anything I had heard before.

Wild Beasts are a four piece based in London that has been putting out records since 2002. Originally named Fauve (French for “wild beast”) the group adopted their current moniker in 2004. Following a two-year long world tour in support of 2011’s Smother, the band took a year off to breathe. This February Wild Beasts made their return with Present Tense. This time the group brought on producers Leo Abrahams and Alex Dromgoole. Present Tense brings a shift into more electronic and synthesized sounds. Wild Beasts shows have been described as an experience, even operatic at times. And this time around we get AP faves Mutual Benefit as the opener?

Short and sweet – you gotta do it.
