Lord Huron delivered an electric performance last Sunday night in front of a sold out crowd at the House of Blues. Despite the high temperatures outside, lines of patrons snaked around bustling Landsdowne Street, eager to see the indie folk band. Cherry Glazerr, the three-piece indie rock band from L.A., started the evening off with their energetic groovy sound. A majority of the songs featured on the group’s setlist came from their latest album, Apocalipstick, alongside their recently released single, “Juicy Socks.” Clementine Creevy (leads vocals, guitar) captured the audience’s attention with her electric riffs and eclectic dance moves. Devin O’Brien (bass) and Tabor Allen (drums) played off Creevy’s energy, creating a dynamic and engaging performance. The group skillfully melted their songs into a 45-minute set, only pausing to thank the audience and the headliners for coming out on such a sweltering night.
Cherry Glazerr’s vibrancy paired well with headliner Lord Huron’s intoxicating performance. The set started off with a satirical T.V. infomercial advertising their new album, Vide Noir. Despite having performed the night before at Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal, the group came out with high energy that they consistently carried throughout the night. No one exhibited this spirit better than lead vocalist Ben Schneider (vocals, guitar, harmonica) who continuously danced so vigorously that his hat came flying off on multiple occasions. It seemed as if each band member played directly from their soul as the sounds of guitar, bass, keys, drums, vocals, and theremin came together in a harmonious blend on stage. The audience revelled in the result, constantly dancing, bobbing, singing and clapping along to the beat.
Even after a respectably long setlist, the group fulfilled the crowd’s persistent requests for an encore with three of their best performances. At the end of their second encore song, “The Night We Met,” the band acknowledged the new fan base which that song had given them, thanking their recent followers for coming to the show. But the final song was, as Schneider put it, “for the people who’ve been with us since the very beginning.” Lord Huron brought the house down with “We Went Wild” a fun and energetic song from their first album in 2012.
