The Go! Team bought their A game to The Sinclair on April 8th and there was no place I’d rather be spending a Sunday night; knowing that another work week was waiting for me on the other side of the gig. The Sinclair was buzzing that night; folks excited to hear their favorite Go-Team tracks and also curious about the opener, Basement Revolver.
Basement Revolver kicked things off with a dreamy rock set. You could feel the crowd falling in love with the 3 piece band in a matter of minutes. There’s a warmth about the lead singer Chrisy Hurn’s voice that made the crowded music venue feel like that zen corner of your bedroom where you spend hours reading as your favorite record enters its 5th rotation.
Once Basement Revolver gave their thanks and exited the stage, audience anticipation skyrocketed as folks began to speculate what The Go! Team set list would hold. Some had ‘must play’ picks while others would be fully satisfied with whatever the band had to offer.
The lights went down and cheers erupted as each member trotted onto the stage; as the lights came up, you could see that each member was stoked to be spending their Sunday with such an enthusiastic crowd. The stage presence of each Go! Team member managed to not only fill the venue but the entirety of Cambridge; their indefatigable energy penetrating the walls of the Sinclair and traveling down Church Street painting the neighborhood with their iconic sound.
I found myself watching most of the set with my mouth ajar; truly stunned at the level of showmanship each member exhibited. Watching them give their all from start to finish gave me the nourishment I’d need to make it through another week of incessant emails and unjustly placed bouts of 30 degree weather.
Leaving The Sinclair was hard that night; a number of folks lingered to soak up the particles of Go! Team energy that were still zipping around the air.
In my opinion, The Go! Team put on one of the most memorable shows of 2018. As a very new fan who saw them live for the 1st time, I can confidently say that I’d follow this band anywhere.
