PREMIERE & FREE DOWNLOAD: BUNNY'S A SWINE - "HEN HOUSE"
There is a particular magnificence to the messes that are Allston basements. Local heroes pluck powerchords right at your fingertips as you are swept up in a mass of sweaty crust-kids and showered in spritzes of PBR foam. Similarly, there is a certain beauty to the buzz of Bunny’s a Swine’s latest single, “Hen House.” The familiar Northampton trio’s new three-chord groove brings the garage to the basement, with two minutes of attack-style fuzz as an homage their favorite Allston landmark. The tune’s uncontained qualities draw similarities to the power-chord vivacity of Tiger Trap’s more notable work. But don’t count out their grasp on the more complex hints of songwriting. Guitarists Candace Clement and Emerson Stevens channel Neko Case and AC Newman’s paired vocal styles, sometimes singing a frenzied two parts at once, and other times locking up for a harmony. What connects with an Allstonian the most, however, are the literal but relatable lyrics in the song. They may be brutally honest, but to the local breed, it’s the simple pleasures that make the basement show such a memorable experience. In the same light, it’s the simple qualities that make “Hen House,” such a tasty jam.
Bunny’s a Swine’s new album All Day, Alright will be released in October, but you can be the first one to download “Hen House” below. Enjoy, and keep an eye out for the whole album next month!
