Boston-originated indie electronic artist Samuel Proffitt premiered a new track over at The FADER today in anticipation for his debut EP Blue Notebook No. 10, which is set to release January 27th.
Evolving from his career as a dance music producer, Proffitt collaborates with AEOBeats in “Sirens” to create a cold breeze of intimate proclamation. The 4:30-timed track takes its time swelling in and out of electronic techniques without going over the computerized top. Showing skill on both artists’ part, the beat is economically dispersed while also being consistently felt. This broken-down structure, recently made successful through artists such as FKA Twigs, is not only artistic. It’s timely.
Proffitt’s poignantly romantic lyrics may read “Every night it was you,” but the underlying dialogue in “Sirens” screams something much more satisfactory for those of us done with loud beeps and word-less audio: It’s called Post-EDM for a reason.
