SKATERS, The Bloody Beetroots, and Meg Myers Talk Governors Ball

We are just ONE day away from the fourth annual Governors Ball, a (semi) new festival that’s held on NYC’s Randall’s Island. Are you headed to the fest? Do you wish you were? All week, Allston Pudding has been getting you HYPED. In case you missed 'em, check out our interview with co-founder Jordan Wolowitz, our tips on do's and don'ts for the fest, and our selections on who you'd be an idiot to miss this weekend.

But enough of US talking, let's turn it over to the bands. We caught up with SKATERS, the Bloody Beetroots, and Meg Myers and asked them some questions. They gave us some answers. Click-click to read through.

SKATERS (New York City)

What's your favorite NYC memory?
One day when I was 18 I was walking down Leonard st near the old knitting factory, with my friends Richard and Mikey.  Mikey went to buy his 5th ice cream of the day and we saw this dude getting out of a car. It was Lou Reed. He had on a tie dye shirt on and a cast on his right arm. He greeted us with a tip of the hat "fellas" We must have looked like such goons just staring with our jaws at our feet. Mikey came out of the shop and perhaps a little too stoned said "who's that old guy you were talking to?" Lou hears this and laughs as he walks away down Leonard st. That's one of my most vivid New York memories.

If you could ask André 3000 one question, what would it be?
Would it be copyright infringement if I changed my name to Andre 3000? Maybe 3001?

What are some tips you have for festival goers?
Try and get as drunk stoned and dehydrated as early in the day as possible then stand front row in the sun all day and don't use sunscreen or drink water or else you're a pussy!!

Tell me about the most awkward gig experience you've ever had.
We once had some dick doing the worm during our show in Cornwall. Luckily a girl had just puked on the floor and he ended up with sick all over himself. What a wanker. #karma

Who is on SKATERS' must see list for this weekend?
Outkast. Damon Albarn. Ratking. The Strokes. La Roux. Drowners.

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS ( Italy )

Who are you excited to see at Gov Ball?
Unfortunately, when I’m at a festival I rarely get a chance to see someone else perform. But I'd love to catch my friend Skrillex and Jack White as well, I'm really curious to hear the new album live.

Have you played other festivals / Gov Ball before? Did you like it, and how did it go?
During the past few years I've played to a lot of festivals: Lollapalooza, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival... But never at Governors Ball before. It’s always so amazing to play my music to large crowds. I’m excited!

What is your favorite music festival experience that you have had yet and why?
It's really hard to answer to that question! Every time is a different experience. Each crowd has a different energy so my job is to connect with the crowd and their energy. Every time is unique and special.

What are some tips you have for festival goers?
Be nice to other people and don't get too wasted. Peace & Love.

What's your favorite New York memory?
I remember a gig of The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 at Webster Hall: the volume of the sound system was so high that my ears hurt for days and the floor almost collapsed while I was performing. Nice!

MEG MYERS (Tennessee)

Who are you excited to see at Gov Ball?
I have to go to another soundcheck after my show at gov ball to play a show that night so I won't be able to see anybody unfortunately. If I could stay I would love to see James Blake.

Have you played other festivals / Gov Ball before? Did you like it, and how did it go?
I've played SXSW and Suburbia Music Festival so far. Both were a lot of hard work but very fun shows! After Governors Ball, I’m heading to Lollapalooza and Bunbury later this summer.

What is your favorite music festival experience that you have had yet and why?
SXSW. We played like 7 shows in 3 days. I don't know about "favorite" experience, but my adrenaline was definitely sky high for a good week after that.

What are some tips you have for festival goers?
Wear sunblock.

What's your favorite New York memory?
Opening for the Pixies!

Stay tuned with AP for coverage of the festival this weekend, and if you're going, we'll see you there and have fun!
